It is not a news that the new flagship plug-in hybrid from BMW was coming, what we didn't know was when this car is gonna be revealed. Well, the waiting is already over, the electrified 7-series is already on its way to hit the markets. The new model will carry 740e iPerformance moniker. The models will be available in August with a $90,095 as a starting price.
The model will of course carry some exclusive blue grille bars and hub covers with, an eDrive and I badges. If you love the original 7 series than you need to know that all the styling kits you loved here will be available on the 7 hybrid Series also. The car is propelled by a 2.0 liter inline four coupled to an electric motor to make a combined 326 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The power of the car will be transferred through an 8-speed automatic to either the rear wheels or all four. The electric motor, can provide between 25 and 30 miles of driving on a full charge. The quickiest 740Le xDrive iPerformance can hit 62 miles per hour in a claimed 5.3 seconds, and its two-wheel-drive counterparts are 1 to 2 tenths slower. An eDrive button will help the driver to choose between Auto and Max settings.
The Battery Control function is another useful feature that will allow the driver to use the gas engine on the highway while saving electric power for city driving at the end of the trip. All models will come standard with auxiliary heating and cooling. The system will allow the car to precondition the cabin to the temperature you want. Let's wait until August and see how the future owners will react to the car.
